2018 Results

This year’s Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition was won by 25-year-old Russian pianist Roman Kosyakov with a magnificent performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1.

A graduate of the Moscow State Conservatory who now studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Kosyakov was presented with a cheque for £15,000 and a guaranteed soloist appearance with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, plus the opportunity to play a concerto in the USA and a number of other concerts in Britain. He also won the £500 Orchestra Prize as voted by the RPO.

There were brilliant performances from all six of the finalists, who are among the finest young concert pianists in the world. They were playing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, who won rapturous applause from the enthusiastic audience.

Second Prize went to 23 year old Su Yeon Kim from South Korea who opened the finals with Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini Op.43 on Friday Night.

Third Prize went to Gen Li (27) from China who played Prokofiev Piano Concerto No.3 in C major Op.26.

Fanya Lin (28) from Taiwan took fourth place with the final’s second performance of Prokofiev Piano Concerto No.3.

Fifth place went to Rixiang Huang (23) from China who played Liszt Piano Concerto No.1 in E flat major S.124.

Sixth place was taken by Kyoungsun Park (25) from South Korea with Beethoven Piano Concerto No.5 in E flat major Op.73
