ENTER THE COMPETITION

To enter the 2018 Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, please fill in all required boxes, including your biography, full repertoire details and upload a high resolution photograph of yourself. Then either upload your video audition or select a live audition venue to attend, then follow the link to pay for your entry.

2018 Competition

  • Biography

  • An English biography of 550 characters (approximately 80 words) must be supplied. This must already be suitable for printing directly.
  • File title must be you own name
  • PROGRAMME

    Contestants must complete all their Competition Programme details in full. All works MUST have their Number/Title, keys, opus, movements and timings. Composer names should be in European spelling.
  • Select whether you will be entering the competition by attending one of the live auditions venues or by uploading a video audition.
  • Live auditions 25 - 28 minutes including all pauses and breaks. Video recordings 20 - 25 minutes including all pauses and breaks. Auditions must be solo repertoire by two or more composers from different periods. Video recording must have been recorded after November 2015.
  • Select one Concerto from the Stage 1 list. Contestants will give a maximum performance of 28 minutes including all breaks/pauses. Contestants must select which sections of the concerto they will play but must include part of every movement and any main Cadenza. The Jury reserves the right to request any part of the concerto.
  • Select one Concerto from the Stage 2 list. This must be a different Composer to the Concerto chosen from Stage 1. Contestants will give a maximum performance of 35 minutes including all breaks/pauses. Depending on the length of the chosen concerto, Contestants must select which sections of the concerto they will play but must include part of every movement and any main Cadenza. The Jury reserves the right to request any part of the concerto.
  • For 2018, the Recital programme must include at least 3 composers from 3 different periods. Contestants must include one work from one of the following composers 1. Scarlatti (at least 2 Sonatas) J. S. Bach A. Mozart (A movement from a substantial sonata is allowed) J. Haydn (A movement from a substantial sonata is allowed) L.v. Beethoven (A movement from a substantial sonata is allowed) The remaining two or more works are own choice but must be from different periods. Total performance time is 35 minutes absolute maximum, including all breaks/pauses.
  • FINAL

    Six finalists perform a complete concerto during two evenings with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The Jury may select either of the two Concerti chosen by contestants from Stage 1 or 2, to be performed in the Final.
  • NB. You may bring your own orchestral accompanist or use an official HIPCC accompanist. Details will follow if accepted in to Stage 1.
