Repertoire for 2019

STAGE 1: Concerto 
Select one Concerto from the Stage 1 list. Contestants will give a maximum performance of 28 minutes including all breaks/pauses. Contestants must select which sections of the concerto they will play but must include part of every movement and any main Cadenza. The Jury reserves the right to request any part of the concerto.

This stage is on two pianos.

STAGE 2: Concerto 

Select one Concerto from the Stage 2 list. This must be a different Composer to the Concerto chosen from Stage 1. Contestants will give a maximum performance of 35 minutes including all breaks/pauses. Depending on the length of the chosen concerto, Contestants must select which sections of the concerto they will play but must include part of every movement and any main Cadenza. The Jury reserves the right to request any part of the concerto.

This stage is on two pianos.

The Jury may select either of the two Concerti chosen by contestants from Stage 1 or 2, to be performed in the Final. 


STAGE 3: Semi Final Recitals

For 2019, the Recital programme must include at least 3 composers from 3 different periods.

Contestants must include one work from one of the following composers

D Scarlatti (at least 2 Sonatas)
J S Bach
W A Mozart (A movement from a substantial sonata is allowed)
J Haydn (A movement from a substantial sonata is allowed)
L van Beethoven (A movement from a substantial sonata is allowed)

The remaining two or more works are contestants free choice but must be from different periods. Total performance time is 35 minutes absolute maximum, including all breaks/pauses.

Semi Finalists not selected for the Final are expected to take a Masterclass given by members of the International Jury on Thursday 28thFebruary.

STAGE 4: FINAL – Six Contestants
Six finalists perform a complete concerto during two evenings with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The Jury may select either of the two Concerti chosen by contestants from Stage 1 or 2, to be performed in the Final.
